If you’ve ever done a home renovation, you know that it can turn your life upside down. Depending on where the work is being done, it could really change the way you live at home for a time. Specifically if work is being done in the kitchen, your diet and nutrition will change drastically.
Re-doing our floors over two weeks has certainly put healthy habits into perspective for us. Here’s how to eat healthy and exercise during a home renovation.
Plan ahead with meals
If your kitchen is getting renovated, it’s going to get very difficult to make healthy meal choices. You may find yourself eating out more than you typically do without access to your stove, oven, and even your microwave.
- Create a pop-up kitchen in another room (if possible) with a sink for dishes, and a “pantry” area for dry food storage.
- Plan ahead by prepping meals ahead of time that can be re-heated in the microwave or simply eaten cold.
- Choose healthy and easy dry pantry foods that you can quickly put together.
Create a workout space
If you work out at home like we do, you may find that your workout space is taken away with a home renovation.
In order to combat this, we created a space in another room so that we don’t miss out on any workouts during the renovation.
Get out of the house when you can
When you’re living amidst a home renovation, you’ll appreciate getting out of the house whenever you can.
When it comes to eating, choose healthy restaurants and healthy options. (Bonus: Use eating out as a great opportunity to get together with friends and family!) If you have a gym membership, this is the perfect time to put it to good use: you’ll not only get out of the house for a bit, you’ll also do your body good by moving it!
