Why My Heart Broke on November 9th

Around 2am on November 9, 2016, I found out – along with the rest of the free world – that we have a new President of the United States.

Aside from the fact that I was confident in the fact that we’d have our first female President, this news shook me to my core and affected me more than I realized it would.

When Donald Trump first told the country he was running for President, I thought it was a joke. I thought that it was a scam and a way to either get more business or press – or both – for his empire. Once the reality set in that he was truly running, I watched while friends of mine ripped Hillary and the Democrats apart instead of building up their own candidate. I also watched while Donald Trump offended, belittled, and demeaned nearly every race, creed, and nationality.

All the while, I never thought it would actually happen. I thought that the American people were better than this. In fact, I was so confident when I woke up on the 8th to vote, I even called Hillary our first female President as part of my obligatory voting selfie.

And here’s the worst of it…when I heard the official news, my heart broke.

My heart broke for all of my LGBTQ friends and the community that will likely lose their right to marry the love of their life.

My heart broke for hard working immigrant families – like my boyfriend’s – who want a better life for their families and will likely not be able to find that in America.

My heart broke for my friends of minority races and minorities everywhere, since we will likely go back in time and they will have to suffer (again) through an age of severe discrimination and persecution.

My heart broke for people with disabilities, as their new leader is a man who takes to making fun, judging, and persecuting them. Of course, this disgusting behavior will likely penetrate the masses and make it “OK” to act this way.

My heart broke for our men and women in blue as well as in arms protecting us across seas, because they honestly never receive the respect they deserve.

My heart broke for the women who are raped or have a fetus with a life threatening disability who could likely be jailed for aborting the fetus.

My heart broke for women everywhere, because Donald Trump has made it a pattern to consistently belittle and degrade women; making us barely better than objects in his mind.

My heart broke for my future children…the innocent beings that I’ll have to one day explain why a man with such deplorable character was voted in for the highest office in our country. And worse – why the people of our country found him fit to run it.

I can’t even think of a Trump regime right now…I cannot even fathom it. Because today, my heart is broken.
