Why This Is My Last Year Coaching (For Now, At Least)

Last week, my best friend (and co-coach) and I told our girls that this was our last year coaching at Flagler.

It was a tough choice. And it’s bittersweet.

After 9 seasons of coaching college cheerleading between Maine (at St. Joseph’s College of Maine) and Florida (at Flagler College), I decided it was time for a break.

It’s time.

With Kristen now married and her busy school schedule and my busy business and life, we decided that it was the right time to move on to the next phase of our lives.

We’ve both enjoyed coaching so much and working with the teams we’ve had (and both the ups and the downs), but it’s the right time to move forward.

We ended on a really, really good note.

It certainly doesn’t hurt that we had a Cinderella team, who started off slow and ended up placing second in our conference Peach Belt competition this year!

I’ve learned so much.

I couldn’t be more grateful for how much coaching has taught me.

I’ve had the chance to mentor amazing young women and hopefully be a small part of making them better people. I’ve been challenged by their strong personalities and resourceful qualities, and had to call on all my interpersonal powers to deal with situations that I never thought I would have to.

Coaching has taught me how to be a better leader, a better future Mom, and a better person. And I wouldn’t change a minute of it.
